“In de jaren 1960 werkte ik bij Spaarnestad. Daar stonden een zender en ontvanger die contact hadden met persbureaus zoals United Press. Wij kregen nieuwsfoto’s binnen van over de hele wereld. Hier heb ik ook de foto’s
van de moord op Kennedy zien binnenkomen.
Je moest van alle middelen gebruik maken om je foto snel op de redactie te krijgen. Zo hoorde ik van een fotograaf die met een verslaggever in India was om een belangrijke cricketwedstrijd te verslaan, na afloop met het fotorolletje bij een motorrijder achterop en snel naar ‘t vliegveld rijden waar dan een Nederlands vliegtuig was geland. Hij overhandigde het rolletje aan de stewardess en op Schiphol stond dan iemand van de krant klaar om ‘t rolletje in ontvangst te nemen, die ging direct naar de krant, ontwikkelde het en zo stond de foto de volgende dag in de krant!”

“I worked at Spaarnestad in the 1960s. There was a transmitter and receiver that had contact with news agencies such as United Press. We received news photos from all over the world. I also have the pictures here of the Kennedy assassination. You had to use all means to get your photo to the editors quickly. For example, I heard from a photographer who was in India with a reporter to cover an important cricket match, that he afterwards drove to the airport on the back of a motorcycle where a Dutch plane had landed. He handed the roll over to the flight attendant and at Schiphol someone from the newspaper was ready to receive the roll. He went straight to the newspaper, developed it and so the photo was in the newspaper the next day!” Kees Funke Küpper, photographer
